Catching the Spark....People ...

As I have stated before, 12 years ago I lost 100 lbs. I really want to get a picture scanned so I can show you a before and after, but I don't know how to run our scanner. sad I know. But maybe one of these days I'll remember when hubs is here and can show me. anyway...

Well a couple of years ago I lost another 25 lbs. I was running and exercising and really feeling pretty good, but then the knee situation started getting worse and my motivation tanked. not.good. So I preceded to gain that 25 lbs. back. boo. After I lost the 25 my family said I was too skinny. (I didn't really know there was such a thing for me, but apparently there is.)

So in the pursuit of just being healthy I would like to lose 14 lbs and start a REGULAR exercise program again. So my baby sis knows all about my weight woes. She has seen me at my worst and my best and thankfully has loved me through it all, Thanks lil sis. And she told me about this web site that helps you track your exercise and food etc. Well I have done these things before and even paid to do these things...gasp!!! But she told me I should check this site out. It is one her wellness coach told her about. So I did.

At first it was overwhelming to me. There is so much stuff to look at and try to figure out. But I went ahead and made a profile and that's pretty much where it stopped. bummer. Well they have been sending me these e-mails based on my profile and issues (like OA) and I have been intrigued. So this week I decided to look into it a little further, and can I just say:

I AM CATCHING THE SPARK....PEOPLE!! The site is sparkpeople.com. If you struggle with weight or just with being healthy this site can really help. It is overwhelming at first, but hang in there. It really is a good site and if you take it in small bites (haha) it is much easier to understand.

My PTist told me yesterday that she thinks I will be able to run again. YAY!!! My sis is cautioning me right now (I hear ya girl), because doc says no, but do ya'll know how much I really love to run? It is a passion of mine. I feel the freeist when I am out there running. Now it will be a lllloooonnnngggg time if at all, but it is something to really look forward to. And in true Petrii fashion, I have set my first goal. I will be training for our local Turkey Trott this November. It is a 5K and the last time I did this was a few years ago, and I ran it. So I may not be able to run it this year, but my goal at this time is to power walk it. So we will see. I am so looking forward to this. I love having a goal to work towards.

So how do you stay fit? And do you have any limitations in fitness? If so, how do you work around them? This is a question I have really wanted to answer to, and SP is helping to answer this question for me. My workout is set up around my knee problems. How great is that?!! I am the type of person that needs a plan and a routine and they do that for ya, GREAT!!

Dak and I went to town yesterday (don't we sound hick to say we went to town?) lol and got him some new glasses. Now this child is so darn cute, who knew a new pair of glasses would make him even cuter?!! Dak has wore contacts for several years and has really wanted a trendy pair of glasses so maybe he can lay off the contacts for a while. They are a pain and I don't like it that he wears them EVERY day. His eyes need a rest I say. Since his old glasses broke it was a great time to get him some new, affordable trendy glasses. And we did just that. I will post a pic tomorrow along with our itinerary for next week and our trip to Mayo.

Hubs started the car last night. YAY!!!!! He has really been working on this car, FOR HOURS EVERYDAY!! I told him it would be nice to have him back =) But he has saved us like $1300.00 -- so great!!!!!

One more thing before I head out to start my day. Since the beginning of the year I have been on the Scripture Memorizaiton Team through the LPM blog. And I just want to tell you that it is changing my life!!! Over the last couple of weeks, knowing these Scriptures have played a BIG part in keeping me out of the pit. And I don't know about you, but I'd like to keep it OUT OF THE PIT!!

Have a Blessed day,

  1. Wow Dawn, that is quite a weight loss story!! 100lbs! That's amazing. Sounds like a great website that is giving you the spark you need :) Aren't you glad we have other people to help cheer us on?? I am hoping you will have a great recovery with that knee and will be able to run again soon.

I hear you about the scripture memory blessings. It has been one of the best things I've done this year too and the Lord has really blessed me through it. Keep it up and I will too!!

How long will you be at Mayo Clinic? Rochester is just about 2 hours south of where we live :) They are the best there! I will pray for you when you go...

  3. I have such trouble try to memorize scripture (or anything for that matter) however, at church our women's group is having a 30 day challenge, everyday in the word for 30 days. Even though I don't always get to physcially read I am listening to in in my car and it makes such a big difference spending time with God everyday. It has helped me get through some tuff times.

    Have a great day.

  4. You already know all about my quest for fitness. This year (January) I started my fitness blog and it helps me to stay accountable to staying on task and with the program that I am currently doing. Having to post my calories and exercise helps tremendously.

I checked out sparkpeople and it reminds me a lot of a site I used to you (fittogether.net) that is no longer available. Currently I use CalorieKing.com, but I pay for it. I won't be doing that much longer.

Can't wait to see Dak's new specs!!

  6. Congratulations to you! Wow. I'm not much of a fitness person. I just enjoy walking several times a week, but need to do more.

I've got to get better at memorizing scripture. It does help in staying out of "the pit".

  7. Hi Dawn! Thanks so much for looking at my blog. I am so excited to have a place to jot down my family memories.

I loved reading your blog. I keep reading about people memorizing scriptures. I need to find out how to join in. As far as a morning routine, our pastor at chruch last week said if you want to talk to the lord and have him talk to you, you have to get up "Early in the morning." I try to remind myself that each morning as I drag myself out of bed.:) I look forward to learning more about you and your family.
    Thanks again, Sher
