My memory verse this time has really spurred some thought in me. Especially the call to be a nonconformist.
Since I have my handy-dandy Bible software back up and running I decided to do a little research on these verses and one word REALLY has stood out to me; conform.
In the Greek this word means: to fashion alike; fashion self according to... So the verse says: "Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind." So we have a don't and a do. Don't conform; do renew. Don't fashion yourself like the world child, but be transformed.
Now we have all probably seen those Makeover shows where they always talk about the transformations that take place in the physical, and they are truly spectacular, but are we to be transformed by the world? Ummmm no, that would be conforming to it. No, the transformation comes in the nonconforming, it comes in the renewing of the mind, so then we can better think like the world? Absolutely not!!! So we can test and approve what God's perfect will is. That is key for us!!
This process that God works in us after salvation is the process of sanctification. He is constantly working on me and I am so thankful. There was and is a lot of work to be done. We are to renew our minds so we can know the will of God, His perfect will. Renewing the mind is not necessarily an easy thing, no sir. Because it has a mind of its own (so to speak). Therefore, we have to make it renew. How do we do that? One of the best ways I have found to renew my mind is to memorize Scripture. When something pops in there, I try to replace that thought with the Word. I'm a little quicker than I used to be, but sometimes those thoughts will get in there and stay a little longer than they should, but God is doing a work in me on this. It truly is a beautiful thing.
I so completely want to be fashioned like my Savior that when you see me, you see Him. I want to look good in a cloak and sandals =)
Have a Blessed Thursday,
Amen sister... I want people to see Him when they see me... such a hard thing though in this crazy world!!!! Even if we can just reflect Him in tiny ways, I think they come across as HUGE reflections of love!!!
