Some things I'm doing while I sit.....

Okay, let me just tell ya....
sitting is just not all it's cracked up to be.
I just don't know how people do it that sit all the time and just sit.
I find it quite hard and I am also finding I'm not very good at it.
In fact, I found my husband saying many times last week.....
"What are you doing? Sit!"
Me.....Hmpfff.
No I am not good at sitting, but I am getting a little better at it anyway.
Especially when I have something fun to occupy this mind of mine.....
Like.....
Scrapbooking.
I have been youtubing and there are so many fun projects out there.
I found a tutorial on how to make a mini-book out of a file folder.
SCORE.
This was such a fun project and at first I wasn't sure what I would do with it, but as it started taking shape, I started feeling the Lord impress it upon my heart to make it a "Grateful Journal" for my sit time. I know that this is a time in my life I will want to look back on and see the lessons I've learned and this "Grateful Journal" will help me do that.
I will be able to see all the things I found graditude in while I sat.
This is the cover of my journal.
Yes I know....not the best cover title, but it is removable.
This is probably a temporary title page, but I didn't have just what I wanted for it, so I improvised. I will make something more permanent when I find the something I'm looking for.
So the outside of my journal is a little plain,
but it is a work in progress.
The pink flower you see is a little something I added to the ribbon to give it a little punch of color.

So when you open the first page this is what you see.
The tag on the left side pulls out and the tag on the right that you see attached with that cute little clip, comes off.
Remember this started out as a plain manilla file folder.
Pretty cool huh?
Here is that tag up close and personal.
It pulls out of the top of the page.....I made a little pocket for it to sit in.

Okay, these are the same two pages,
just with the flaps folded down.....
remember file folder.....
it's all in the cut.
So cool.....
And lot's of room for "Grateful" thoughts.....
and yep, all the tags come out of their respective pockets, except for the tag on the right hand side. It didn't get a pocket. It was so pretty, I just let it be the star of the page =)

This is the next page.
I used a lot of things I already had and just distressed them a bit,
so they would look old. I love that technique.
Oh and the paper I used was by Tim Holz....
I got it at Hobby Lobby on sale, 40% off.
So the whole book has a uniform feel to it.
Some of the embellished papers like the one on the right hand side was something I already had, but I thought it went really well with this color scheme and looks great all distressed up.

I tore some paper as well, and distressed it and added it as pockets or just embellishements to the page.....love it!!!

This is the last page.....
check this out.....

The two flaps fold down.....
You can journal there.....
and then.....

The two flaps on the side fold out for more journaling.....
So cute!
I kind of made stuff up as I went along.
If I thought it would look good I'd try it.
Only one or two things that didn't work out that I tried and one of those I can use in something else. So I felt like this project was a HUGE success!!

And the back cover.....
it is a blend of the Tim Holz paper's and a canvas binding I made from an old tote bag I never used. I love to recycle like that!!
And if you'd like to try it yourself, here is the tutorial I used to get me started.
This week, I think I'll work on some cards.

And just for your viewing pleasure.....
Sir Cuteness!!
And while we're on the subject of my dear Sir Cuteness....
he goes to the cardiologist on March 23rd at 8:00 AM (CST). We would just love your prayers for our g-babe.

And just in case you were wondering.....
yes, it is blue.
And no, I am NOT in a good humor about it.
Blue hair....definite generation gap =)

Blue.hair.
Enough.said.

Hope you are having a beautiful day ~~
Ephesians 1:4-5 "For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in His sight. In love He predestined us to be adopted as His sons through Jesus Christ -- in accordance to his pleasure and will."

  1. That is a beautiful journal Dawn & I would never have guessed how you made it if you hadn't shared. You could start selling these to make money while you're sitting, girl!

Blue hair?! Well, at least the Smurf movie is coming out in a few months & he could fit in for that event I guess! LOL

Praying everyday for Sir Cuteness, too!

  3. Look at you getting all crafty! Love it!!!! You are just getting good with all the scrapbooking & creating! Good to see you keeping yourself busy while SITTING!!!

Prayers definitely being lifted for that little bundle of cuteness!

WOW - my mom would love Dak's hair - she loves all things blue. You need to warm him - he keeps coloring it these extreme colors & his hair is going to start breaking off. Seriously - a girl in my youth group did that like once a month & her hair had to be shaved down because it was like straw & just breaking into pieces! EGADS!!!!! At least he's a guy & if he has to buzz it down, it'll look decent on him... I do have to give it to him for boldness!!! :)

  4. LOVE LOVE LOVE your scrapbooking! I was so thinking of making my own gratitude journal. Just this past weekend I realized that I can find out so much about myself, my God and my faith for what I am thankful for and by allowing myself to actually be grateful for whatever the Lord sees fit to bless me with. Blessings to you my friend! Hugs, Hope
